St. Raymond Catholic Church Food Bank
Program Type Description:
For more than 35 years, St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Dublin has been operating a food bank to help alleviate hunger in our East Bay communities, including Contra Costa and Alameda counties, distributing food to needy seniors, veterans, and families. Since 2016 we have served more than 58,000 people. The number of people we served jumped significantly in 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic. We expect to exceed 6,000 people in 2023, a reflection of growing food insecurity that worsened after the pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn is squeezing more families and seniors.
MISSION STATEMENT:
For more than 35 years, St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Dublin has been operating a food bank to help alleviate hunger in our East Bay communities, including Contra Costa and Alameda counties, distributing food to needy seniors, veterans, and families. Since 2016 we have served more than 58,000 people. The number of people we served jumped significantly in 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic. We expect to exceed 6,000 people this year, a reflection of growing food insecurity that worsened after the pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn is squeezing more families and seniors. Everyone is welcome at St Raymond Catholic Church food bank. Currently, food is distributed monthly on the third Saturday of each month. Food boxes contain nutritional U.S.D.A. food items that we receive monthly through our partnership with the Alameda Food Bank, plus bags containing baked goods, produce, frozen protein such as chicken, fish, and pork loin and much more. The Alameda Food Bank has also awarded us a commercial freezer, pallet jack, large portable tents, carts, A-frame signs and safety equipment to use on our distribution days. We also deliver food to 26 homebound seniors and veterans. Three times a year, at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, we also distribute holiday baskets and food gift cards to more than 2,000 people, including to our sister parish, St. Cornelius Catholic Church, 205 28th St. in Richmond.
