Locker Project
Program Type Description:
School pantry operator
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Locker Project connects food-insecure children in Maine with nourishing food to improve their learning capacity, health and future. We take a whole-family approach to child hunger with programs that strive to be low-barrier, stigma-free and environmentally responsible.
Notes:
The Locker Project was founded in 2014 in Portland and grew rapidly by opening school pantries. We currently partner with dozens of public schools and local agencies across Greater Portland to reach 2500+ children at risk of hunger and their families every year with more than half a million pounds of healthy food, prioritizing fruits and vegetables. By providing reliable access to nutrient-dense food, we are improving diets and stretching family food budgets.
